Before your EV arrives, get your electrical supply, solar and charging ready. Here's the checklist.
Start with your switchboard
An EV charger is a significant new load. Your switchboard may need a dedicated circuit and possibly an upgrade, especially on an older board. A clean, modern board makes the install safer and faster.
Check your supply
Single phase limits how fast you can charge at home (typically up to 7.4kW). Three phase allows faster charging (up to 22kW) and balances the load. For most overnight home charging, single phase is plenty — but plan for your future vehicles.
Pair with solar
If you have solar, a smart charger that prioritises solar charging turns your driving into near-free miles. If you're getting solar anyway, size it with the EV in mind.
Consider a battery
A battery lets you store solar by day and charge the EV at night from stored energy — useful if you charge overnight.
Plan the location
Think about where the car parks and where the charger will mount. A short, tidy cable run keeps the install clean and cost-effective.
The takeaway
A little preparation before your EV arrives saves money and hassle. Include a switchboard photo in your assessment and we'll tell you exactly what's needed.
